Fathers Day

Father's day is all about celebrating being a dad, being a parent to children. Being a father is rewarding however it is a journey of learning and there are challenges along the way so there is a day a year to celebrate it just there is a day called Mother's day when we celebrate Mother's. On these days it is normal practice to celebrate the day in honour of your father and usually this is done with a family gathering.

 

Father's day take place the first Sunday in September in western cultures. Father's Day was believed to have first occurred on June 19th 1910, but wasn't recognised as a holiday until 1913 by the US Congress. The holiday only became a national holiday in 1972.

 

At first many people laughed at the holiday as it was not that important, now in the 21st century it is not only an important date for Father's but also for business's due to the great amount of giving of gifts and presents.

 

Many fathers enjoy gifts in the form of experiences and there are many to now find and can usually include the rest of the family in some way and are always remember instead of the same sock or music cd. The day may consist of a family lunch and or dinner with different parts of the family, in-laws, grandfathers and direct families.

 

So when is Father's day
In most countries it is held on the 19th of June or the second Sunday in June. In Australia it is held on the first Sunday in September

 

Australian Father's day 2010 September 5th
Australian Father's day 2011 September 6th

 

As this day is a Sunday it is not celebrated with a national holiday, this is the same for Mother's day also.
